Tyne Residence
The Tyne Residence has a storied past as the site of the Civil War’s Battle of Nashville. Inspired by the location, we combined hyper-traditional and contemporary elements, resulting in a material palette of limestone, slate, zinc, stucco, glass, and steel. This residence is organically placed to blur the lines between interior and exterior, generating connectivity to its landscape. Our Principal, Nick Dryden, first worked on this project in 2000 while at EOA and again in 2017 with Dryden, modernizing the house. Concrete tile replaced travertine, and more transparency was created with expansive steel windows and doors. The kitchen was opened up, leading into the courtyard. The main entryway was reoriented to impart an art gallery feel to the corridor. The result is a beautiful, timeless home.
