Taco Mamacita
Formerly a fish market, the new home of Taco Mamacita playfully embraces the structure’s historic elements—from keeping the front facade’s form to the exposed wood plank ceiling and CMU walls. While not denying its roots, the building’s design is not afraid to be bold. The space inside is warm and colorful. The walls are textured with plaster, wood, and tiles. A vivid rust orange highlights the structure inside and in the patio addition. The patio addition speaks to more contemporary aesthetics, contrasting the historic masonry, which received a new coat of paint. The charm of this building lies in its balance between a storied past and a visionary future. Smith Hanes provided the Interior Design, and Widget Sand Stone provided the signage.
