May Hosiery

May Hosiery Co-Op is a storied building. The mill, a former sock factory, was both a WWII sanctuary and sock provider for missions to the moon. The buildings' adaptive reuse renovation and restoration have spanned more than five years. We are renovating five factory buildings on the property by transforming more than 198,000 square feet into various programs, including office space for AJ Capital, Apple Music, and the future home for Soho House Nashville. Recent additions create a juxtaposition between new interventions and existing built components. We reconnected the buildings using egress balconies and stairs where they once connected as factories. Steel grids from existing windows and original bricks were preserved, creating patterns both new and old. This historic building will continue to tell Nashville’s story as its neighborhood, Wedgewood-Houston, begins a new chapter.
