AJ Capital is a mixed-use developer, investment manager, and operator founded in Nashville, TN. Our team was tasked with creating an updated office environment within one of the historic structures of the May Hosiery Complex. The project comprises private offices, open office space, conference rooms, phone booths, a material library, a lounge and kitchen, and a reception area. At the heart of our design was preserving the building’s historic character while providing the amenities and features required for a modern office. This was achieved by adding complementary steel frame windows and doors and allowing load-bearing brick walls, bowstring roof trusses, and the original wood ceiling to remain exposed. Vintage furniture pieces and a surplus of art pieces, among them a repurposed vintage Broadway sign, balance out the office equipment, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The space’s history and character shine through without sacrificing functionality.
